So, if any of you are like me, your Facebook & Twitter feeds have been blowing up with political rants, raves, rude comments, etc. Seriously, while I enjoy politics, I have been on the countdown to the election since March… yes, you read that correctly, March. It seems as though everyone is violently left or violently right. What happened to being a moderate? When did the ability to compromise mean that you were completely abandoned by both parties? It has gotten to the point I have deleted almost 100 “friends” from Facebook because of their diatribe. Both sides spin stories, both sides could take the same fact and create two diametrically opposed arguments from it.
And not only do people argue about politics and sides, the media just continues to dig on both people and their families. I’m sorry, people are human, let us stop judging everything and everyone and try to meet in the middle. I feel as though this election is showing the world the worst side of America. Instead of fighting about every single idea that divides us, let us work on what unites us. Let us improve what we can, learn from our mistakes, grow and practice this brand new thing called civility. How amusing would it be to watch a political analysis show and not have the analysts yelling over each other? How wonderful would it be to have leaders who were leading instead of campaigning right now? Did you know until the late 1800s and early 1900s it was considered the worst social offense to campaign for yourself. Why cannot we get back to that? If you have to beg someone to vote for you, does that mean you are qualified to lead?
Again, these are just my views, and well, I guess my political ranting and raving. However, I think as a nation it is time for us to grow up and stop saying negative things about each other. Just because someone doesn’t agree with you does not make their opinion any less valid, nor does it make them an “idiot”. I feel like many of us are saying, “Ok, children / media / campaigns let’s play nice. No more throwing things (tantrums, mud etc).”
I promise no more political rants this election season. Thanks for listening. Now, go vote!!!
Until We Meet Again,
